Give the people what they want

Sex, dating, and relationships

Apparently, sex, dating, and relationships are what people want to read about.

I do too, actually. I gravitate to those very same articles. So why should I be surprised?

I want to write about those topics too. And yet, I shy away.

Why?

Who knows. Catholicism?

I glimpsed a write-up of a photo exhibition at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art today… it was a man kissing a man. But man-on-man wasn’t the amazing and arresting thing about the piece. More, it was the lips. The slight snarl. The hunger, the aggression. Desire laid bare.

It was hot.

It was the hand at the back of the head, the closed eyes, the focus, the depth… You can almost feel the tongue.

It was brave. It’s brave photography. But, again, why?

Are we so scared of this aspect of the human experience? Sexuality?

It’s powerful, that’s for sure.

It can be addictive. It can be crazy-making. It can be, and usually is, all-consuming.

That’s what it is. We are mammals. It’s the drive. The sexual drive, the sexual instinct to further the species. Maybe what we’re all so embarrassed…
