Finally caught in Covid’s gears

My son recently moved into the Cloyne Court co-op at UC Berkeley. Shortly thereafter, mere days , in fact, he came down with a fever and cold symptoms. He came home, I nursed him for a day, and then, the next night, I came down with the same symptoms. Yesterday, we tested ourselves with home tests, and yes, we have the dreaded Covid. His case is passing quickly. He got sick Tuesday night and already feels almost fine. He has some congestion remaining in his chest that he’s duly coughing out at intervals.

I seem to have it a little worse. I had a fever of 101.2 and difficulty breathing the first night, but only because so much phlegm seemed to be cropping up in my throat. I had to get up on one elbow every half hour or so to drink water and keep my throat relatively clear. Most of yesterday was spent with a splitting headache, and then I had the added gift of nausea toward the end of the day and began throwing up — not a symptom I expected. Everyone knows that’s the worst.

Last night, I was awakened every hour or so by aches and pains, not to mention the two times I was jolted to by car alarms in the neighborhood — alarms that went on and on, with no effort whatever by their owners to silence them.
